In 2003, after many years of creative exploration as artists we founded Bella Vista Tile. It's been a fascinating shift- from envisioning & creating expressive objects, to learn how to recognize and work with the elements of an atmosphere. At first, as I designed our tile, I was entirely focused on each one as a unique experience, and as I progressed, I felt like I was building a world or a language...There is a 'fractal' quality to tile, each piece has it's own voice. In an installation all the voices join, as in a chorus. I'll never forget the first time I walked into a large kitchen, the first installation of our tile- on three walls...it was so amazing to walk into that space and to be surrounded with our tile. To see it was a part of the room, and feel that the room was speaking. It was very peaceful and inviting; it felt so good to be there and let it soak in. Since then we've had many opportunities to see spaces transformed, each in it's own way- it's very, very exciting. I've always felt that art has a tremendous potential- a power to let us experience things in reality that we otherwise experience only in dreams. This is the thread that connects all of my work. The vision is there, instantaneous and exhilarating- how then to make it real? In the chase to capture a feeling and make it real, engaging in the process, immersing ourselves in the craft and the alchemy, we find we have created materials which are now the elements of new dreams.
Our goal is to help inspire the creation of environments that are both expressive and reflective. We work with a sense of discovery, connectivity and passion.
